Call for Scholarship Applications
Harvard Business School Executive Education Program:
Strategic Perspectives in Non-profit Management
The Harvard Business School Club of South Florida is inviting applicants for three or four full-tuition scholarships to attend a special executive education program, Strategic Perspectives in Non-profit Management (“SPNM”), at the Harvard Business School (“HBS”) campus in Boston. This flagship course in the Business School’s Social Enterprise Program is designed for the top executive in the non-profit sector and consists of seven days of intensive training. Participants explore strategic concepts in mission focus, market sensitivity, organizational structure, performance management and control. Attendees develop a strategic outlook to improve the effectiveness of their organizations by understanding core management concepts; applying these concepts strategically; and learning how to implement change within the organization.
WHO SHOULD APPLY: Non-profit executives with a title of President, CEO, or Executive Director and responsible for shaping the direction, mission, policies and major programs of their organizations. The eligible applicant must lead a South Florida non-profit organization that has an annual operating budget of at least $500,000; but preferably over $1 million to be considered. The applicant should have at least one year of experience in his/her current role. Past participants have been drawn from non-profit organizations in the arts, community development, education, charitable foundations, social services and international development, among other areas. HBS will not consider applications from management support organizations or consulting firms. Representatives from industry/trade associations might be considered in a limited number of cases.
DATE OF COURSE: Sunday, July 18, 2010 through Saturday July 24, 2010.
PLACE: Harvard Business School Campus, Boston, Massachusetts
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS: This program has no formal educational prerequisites. However, proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
COSTS: Scholarships offered by the Harvard Business School Club of South Florida will cover the full cost of tuition, books, accommodation and meals. To demonstrate commitment to this educational program, the employing organization must fund the cost of travel to Boston and provide the applicant with time off for attendance.
APPLICATION PROCESS:

Complete the application for the SPNM Program and Scholarship. Please note below that for sponsorship consideration, applications should be mailed to the Club and not to HBS.

Obtain a letter of recommendation describing how you and your organization will benefit from participating in the educational program. For CEOs, this recommendation should come from the Chair of the Board.

Completed applications must be received by the Scholarship Selection Committee no later than March 1st, 2010.

Finalists will be interviewed in person by representatives of the Scholarship Selection Committee during the month of March 2010. Selection criteria is based on the applicant’s professional achievement and impact on the organization; impact of the organization in the community; the organization current challenges and the applicant’s goal in attending the HBS program.

Scholarship recipients must be accepted by Harvard Business School for the program. In case a recipient is not accepted to the program or is unable to attend for other reasons, alternates may be selected.

All decisions of the Scholarship Selection Committee are final.
