Health care software applications have offered administrative efficiency for many years.

Now, new IT applications like emergency room programs and orthopedics benefit from improved technical capability and information sharing, as well as enhanced efficiency. Here in south Florida, exciting new health care applications are being developed, but some of the innovations bring up questions: how do we balance the often conflicting needs of information and privacy? In health care reform, where and how do innovations fit?

Join us to hear our panelists' perspectives on software uses in medical products, trends they see, and the how medical software innovation affects industry competitiveness, as well as their views on investing and commercial perspectives.

Carlos Castresana is a Partner of Edify LLC.  Mr. Castresana is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business and University of Bridgeport School of Law. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a member of the New York Bar.

He spent three years with Salomon Brothers in New York City as their Operations Manager and then moved to Florida to become the Director of Corporate Administration for the Michael Swerdlow companies. The firm partnered with American Express and Triangle Industries to purchase and develop one of South Florida’s largest real estate holdings: Hollywood, Inc.

In 1992, Mr. Castresana joined AXA Advisors, LLC as a specialist of employee pension and employee benefits. His client roster represents a “who’s who” list from the South Florida area. Mr. Castresana was appointed Regional Vice President in the Ft. Lauderdale branch office of AXA Advisors, LLC in June 2000.

In 2004, Mr. Castresana became a partner of EDIFY, LLC. He serves as the President and is responsible for interfacing with all major insurance carriers to expand coverage and provide the most competitive rates for EDIFY’s client base. Mr. Castresana has been instrumental in developing EDIFY’s Corporate Health Care Strategies for key clients, providing solutions for disease management and wellness programming.

Mr. Castresana has 20 plus years working in the Health Care Industry. He has developed architecture for industry standards, norms, health and welfare trends as well as cutting edge developments and initiatives. In this role, he has provided strategic guidance in the development of health and wellness strategies alongside some of the most prestigious companies in the State of Florida.

In 2007, Mr. Castresana was appointed to the Governor’s Fitness Council for the State of Florida by Governor Charlie Crist, and reappointed in 2009 for a second term.
 

 

Bart Chernow, MD, MACP is a Professor of Medicine and Anesthesiology, Vice Provost for Technology Advancement and the Vice President of Special Programs at the University of Miami (UM) and the Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Chernow is responsible for a number of programs at UM, including UM Innovation, which consists of the Office of Technology Transfer, the Wallace H. Coulter Center for Translational Research, the UM Patent and Copyright Committee, UM Innovation Technology Showcase and the proposed UM Life Science Park. Dr. Chernow has a long history with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine. He was formerly the Vice Dean of Research, Technology and Corporate Relations at Johns Hopkins, and was Professor of Medicine, Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Prior to Johns Hopkins he was an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, serving in clinical, research and educational roles at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Chernow is a Past-President of the American College of Chest Physicians and is Editor Emeritus of the journal Critical Care Medicine, the official journal of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Chernow is the author or co-author of numerous manuscript publications, book chapters, editorials, review articles and abstracts. He has received many prestigious awards and has been honored as a master fellow of the American College of Physicians, as well as a master fellowship in the American College of Chest Physicians.
 

 

Dr. Timothy G. Coffield is President and Chief Executive Officer of ScriptRx, Inc., a healthcare technology firm offering a suite of software-as-a-service solutions delivered through biometrically secure touch-screen workstations to walk-in ambulatory care facilities, which include emergency rooms, urgent care centers, and retail health clinics. ScriptRx systems are deployed in healthcare facilities across 36 states. Dr. Coffield has over 25 years of experience in hospital and healthcare administration. He has previously spoken at UM's Launch Pad to an assembly of the Launch Pad Fellows.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and went on to obtain a Ph.D. from Fordham University. He also attended Fordham University's Graduate School of Business Administration. 
 

 

 

Albert Santalo is Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of CareCloud Corporation. An experienced entrepreneur, he founded the Company in 2009 with the vision of becoming a healthcare information technology leader focused on eliminating the waste and inefficiency in the healthcare industry today. Previously, Mr. Santalo was Founder and Chairman of Avisena, a software-enabled revenue cycle management company in the healthcare industry where he worked from 2004 to 2008. He is the lead inventor and has a U.S. patent pending for Avisena's Accounts Receivable Management Methodology.

Mr. Santalo also has extensive experience in working with Global 2000 companies, assisting them with business process transformation. He previously worked at The Hackett Group/Answerthink (NASDAQ: HCKT), a management and technology consulting firm, where he served as Director in the IT Transformation and Strategy Practice. Some of his global clients included Bausch and Lomb, Ivax Pharmaceuticals, Roche Pharmaceuticals, AOL/Time Warner, Waste Management, 3Com Corporation, Republic Industries, Florida Power and Light, ADP/TotalSource, Alliance Data Systems, Precision Response Corporation, AutoNation USA, and First Data Corporation. Santalo has also held several leadership positions at information technology consulting and outsourcing firms.

He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Florida International University and is a member of various industry associations. He is the recipient of the FIU 2004 Charles E. Perry Visionary Award for outstanding alumni and was inducted to the FIU Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame in 2006.
